Guest 		I will be looking for jobs after my fellowship finishes in June 2011 but I have no idea what to expect in a new job with respect to salary and other benefits. My senior fellows who have found jobs gave me a wide range of starting salary. I do not want to be uninformed and look stupid when I negotiate my contract. Can somebody illuminate me with what should I be expecting from my new employer? Bless you and thank you in advance.

Your fellows told you the right thing that salaries can range widely depending on a variety of factors including but not limited to your training (AP only vs CP only vs AP/CP), kind of fellowship, geography (I presume you are in U.S.A), practice setting (University, Private practice, Commercial lab), and the list goes on and on. It can range from US $60,000 to $250,000 depending on where you are going to. Without knowing your exact situation, credentials, and preferences I could not make a good guess on how much you should expect. Give me more details about your situation.

Guest 		I am doing a cytopathology fellowship and would like to join a private practice group. I am not sure what to ask for a starting salary and other benifits. I can move anywhere in US but would prefer West coast. Should I expect 200+ K or is it too much to ask for?

Posts: 6 		Your prospects look good. You can expect a starting salary of $200,000 to $250,000 depending on the group and their dire need for you. It may a little higher or little lower than that but I would be looking in that range. Good luck.
